About PNRC

The story of the Philippine National Red Cross is the story of men and women from all walks of life who have dedicated themselves to the service of humanity. It is the tale of hundreds of thousands of ordinary people who devoted their time and resources to help the poorest of the poor. Professionally trained and truly compassionate, these men and women are ready to lend a helping hand to those in need – whoever, whenever and wherever they may be.

Has adopted the following Vision and Mission Statement to guide its day-to-day activities and long term objectives, in serving the nation as a whole.

Disaster Management Service

The roles of the Disaster Management Services (DMS) are to provide relief in times of disasters and to carry on measures to minimize the suffering caused by them. Disaster preparedness is also a major component of its program that aims to prepare especially the vulnerable communities in the event of calamities.

Safety Services

The Safety Services also renders first aid, ambulance, beach patrol, lifeguarding and basic rescue services. It also encourages physical fitness and practice of skills learned through its First Aid Olympics and Swim and Stay-fit programs.

Red Cross Youth

A proposal to associate young people with the Red Cross by the Ladies Committee of Monrovia was submitted to the Vth International Conference of the Red Cross in 1892.

Community Health and Nursing Services

The Community Health and Nursing Services has long been in the forefront in educating the Filipino on basic health care and in providing access to health services for vulnerable groups and communities. The beneficiaries of the program include children, the elderly, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and persons with disabilities.

Social Services

On August 6 1945, the Home Service Department was organized to maintain professional relationships with the government and private welfare agencies in serving civilians, servicemen and veterans with respect to government benefits as well as health and welfare inquiries of displaced relatives and friends.

National Blood Services

The Blood Program of the Philippines operates in accordance with the provisions of the National Blood Services Act of 1994 or Republic Act 7719. In tripartite cooperation with the Department of Health and the Philippine Blood Coordinating Council, the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) is one of the key organizations tasked to provide safe blood to the country through its active role in advocacy, promotion of voluntary blood donation, retention, donor care and the operation of a network of 69 Blood Service Facilities all over the country.

International Humanitarian Law

In Section 1 of Republic Act 95 (as amended), the PNRC was created to be the voluntary organization officially designated to assist the Philippine government in discharging its obligations set forth in the Geneva Conventions.
